History
The shrine's origins date back to the 4th year of the Koki era (747 CE) under Emperor Shomu, when Sarutahiko Okami was invited to be enshrined beside the Shinmei Shrine. It came to be known as Ono Minato Shrine as the guardian deity of the port of Ono-go. Following a fire that destroyed the shrine buildings in the 4th year of the Kencho era (1252 CE) during the reign of Emperor Go-Fushimi, the shrine was relocated to its current site. It enjoyed deep reverence from the lords of the Kaga Domain and held the top position among the domain's five major shrines. It was designated as a Prefectural Shrine in the 18th year of the Meiji era (1885 CE) and listed as a Special Shrine of the Association of Shinto Shrines in the 41st year of the Showa era (1966 CE).
