In 1938, the Governor of Osaka Prefecture served as the chairman of the patronage committee. After World War II, due to the influence of the Shinto Directive, it enshrined Emperor Nintoku and was renamed Naniwa Jingu (Naniwa Grand Shrine). In 1952, it reverted to its original name, Osaka Gokoku Shrine. The shrine buildings were completed in 1963, and visits have been made by Emperor Shōwa, Empress Kōjun, and the Crown Prince.
