A Soto Zen Buddhist temple located in Nakano City, Nagano Prefecture. Its mountain name is Koryu-zan and its temple name is Gokoku-in. It is a branch temple of Manjoji.
History
The temple's origins are said to date back to 709 CE, when a simple grass hut was established. In 1542 CE, the Zen master Keiho Myozoku Ka Gokkenju, who received an imperial decree, rebuilt the halls and became the founding patriarch of the temple's revival. In 1573 CE, it was named Tennoji. After a fire in 1731 CE and a total loss to flames in 1909 CE, the current main hall was rebuilt in 1909 CE.
