Sugawara-no-Michizane (Tenjin)

History

In 1545 CE (Bunmei 14), a small shrine washed up on the Iwanoue (Rock) at the first rapid of the Oda River due to a major flood. The castle lord of Imaoka established it in a location corresponding to the Onimon (demon gate) of the castle. After the shrine was destroyed by a fire before the Meiji Restoration, it was enshrined and rebuilt at its current location, where it continues to be revered as the Ujigami of Chisei Village.
