History

Tenjinsha is one of the 128 ancient shrines in the province of Bizen listed in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex) and the Bikkoku Soja Shinmyocho (a register of shrine names for the head shrine of Bikkoku). It is recorded as Tenjinsha in the Engishiki Shinmyocho and as Tenno Jinja in the Bikkoku Soja Shinmyocho. On September 27, 1907 (Meiji 40), it was designated as a shrine for the offering of divine food and silk (Shinsen Heihaku-ryo).
