In 1773 (An'ei 2), Kamei Masasada, the lord of the Tsunoda Domain, invited the kami from Fushimi Inari Taisha and established the shrine on the peak of Taikotani, which corresponds to the demon gate of the castle. In 1867 (Keio 3), the Kumano Gongen Shrine was relocated here, and the shrine was renamed Kumano Shrine. However, in 1927 (Showa 2), it was renamed Inarinasu Shrine. The name 'Inarinasu' was adopted with the wish that prayers would be fulfilled ('ina' meaning rice/harvest and 'nasu' meaning to accomplish). It is now counted among the Five Great Inari Shrines of Japan.
