It is said that the temple began when Kogamaru Jōjō, a prominent figure in Koriyama, received a statue of Kannon (Avalokiteshvara) from Emperor Heisei, returned to his hometown, and in 807 CE (Daidō 2) established a Kannon Hall and performed the consecration ceremony. During the Meiji era, the abbot Suzuki Shinkō devoted himself to the upbringing of children, school education, and regional development.
