History
Founded in 1348 by Messhu Suko, the second son of Nakajima Kuronin, to express gratitude to his parents. Nanpu Shomei was invited as the founding priest. Later, the temple received its name from Ashikaga Yoshimitsu and became a temple under imperial patronage of Emperor Go-Kogon. Although it declined during the Sengoku period, it was revived through donations from Toyotomi Hideyoshi and is now one of the largest Zen temples in the Owari region.
