In 712 CE (Wado 5), the deity Uga-no-Mitama-no-Kami was enshrined. In 806 CE (Daido 1), Takeminakata-no-Kami and Yasakatome-no-Kami were enshrined as branch deities from Kamisuwa Shrine. Although the shrine buildings were washed away by a flood in 1576 CE (Tensho 4), they were relocated to the current site. Since then, the shrine has received donations from local lords.
