Anrakuji Temple: Niomon (Lion Gate)
吉見町御所
A temple of the Chizan-ha sect of Shingon Buddhism, also known as Yoshimi Kannon. It serves as the 11th station of the Bando 33 Kannon Pilgrimage and is also a station on the Kanto 88 Kannon Pilgrimage.
History
The temple's origins trace back to the Nara period, when the monk Gyoki installed an image of Kannon the Merciful. It is said that in the early Heian period, Sakanoue no Tamamaru constructed the main hall. Minamoto no Noriyori later built a three-story pagoda and other structures, but these were destroyed by fire during a military conflict. The temple was revived in the early Edo period by the monk Gyo-kyo.
