Anrakuji Temple

〒780-0042 高知県高知市洞ヶ島町5−3 安楽寺

4.0(50)

A temple of the Shingon-Ryuseiha sect located in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, and the 30th stop on the Shikoku Pilgrimage.

History

According to tradition, it was founded during the Engi era (901–923 CE) by Sugawara no Michizane's descendant, Sugawara no Takamichi, modeled after the memorial temple for Michizane in Chikuzen. It was destroyed and declined during the Onin War but was revived during the Kanbun era (1661–1673 CE) in the Edo period. It was relocated to the site of the former Zuiou-in temple in 1875 CE (Meiji 8).
