During the Sengoku period, the temple repelled an invasion by the Asakura clan and participated in the Battle of Ishiyama. In the Meiji era, it moved to its current location on the site of the Sannomaru (Third Bailey) of Hachiman Castle, and was rebuilt in 1936.
