History
Founded in 1583 CE (Tensho 11) by Maeda Toshiie, the founding lord of the Kaga Domain, on the site of the current Kenrokuen Garden. The Zen monk Daito Keijo was invited to serve as the founding patriarch. Since then, it has served as the ancestral temple for successive generations of the Maeda family, and Toshiie's funeral was held here. The temple was relocated to its current location in 1620 CE (Genna 6). In 1669 CE (Kanbun 9), Maeda Tsunamasa oversaw the reconstruction of the main hall, guest quarters, kitchen, and mountain gate.
