After Empress Rishou entered the temple in 1644 CE (Kan'ei 21), it became a nunneries for imperial princesses, with successive princesses taking residence. It came to be known as 'Momomatsu Gosho' after the name of the local area. During the Meiji era, it merged with Daijiin, where the abbot had previously held a dual position.
