The original shrine was established in Miyazawa-go in 823 CE (Kounin 14). It was originally known as Hojo Hachimangu because it performed the Hojo-e ceremony, but since the medieval period, it was called Toyokatsu-gu. On November 13, 1906 (Meiji 39), the Kifune Shrine, Toyuke Shrine, and Sugawara Shrine, which were scattered throughout the village, were merged here. In November 1915 (Taisho 4), it was classified as a Kotaijinja (village shrine).
