Founded by Yuben, the temple has been repeatedly rebuilt and revived by figures such as Yuuyo, Yoshin, and Zendo. It was destroyed by fire at the end of the Kamakura period and underwent further reconstruction and revival in 1835 CE (Tenpo 6) and 1961 CE (Showa 36).
