Hokoji Temple
〒231-0062 神奈川県横浜市中区桜木町3丁目 宝光寺
A temple of the Jodo Shinshu Honganji-ha sect located in Sakuragicho, Naka Ward, Yokohama.
History
Its origins date back to 1872 (Meiji 5), when it was established as a preaching hall serving as lodging for the head priest of the Honganji. In 1918 (Taisho 7), the temple registry of Hokoji from Yamanashi Prefecture was transferred here, and the current temple name was officially adopted. Although it was destroyed by fire during the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 (Taisho 12), it was rebuilt in 1926 (Taisho 15).
