History
Its origins date back to the Jomon period. Legend states that Emperor Yin ordered Monobe Miwamarudaimiko to build the 'Miyado no Miya' (Palace of the Sun), marking its beginning. During the reign of Empress Jito, it was granted the status of 'Ichi-no-Miya' (First Shrine) and general guardian of the Echigo Province. From the Heian period onward, the shrine underwent multiple relocations, finally moving to its current site during the Bunsei era. Subsequent expansions led to the completion of the current large-scale vermilion-painted main hall.
