It is said that during the Bunji era, Sasaki Kiyomasa enshrined the deity from Hachiko Shrine in Omi Province. Until the Edo period, it was known as Mitsu Shrine or Hachiko Shrine. In the third year of the Genkō era, Nitta Yoshitsune prayed for victory in battle, and the shrine was rebuilt during the Kenmu era. In the first year of the Meiji era, it was renamed Koguro Shrine following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism. Currently, it operates as a concurrently managed shrine of Yakumo Shrine.
