The shrine was invited in 1141 by Koyamada Seiei, and a small shrine (hokora) was built in 1575. In 1662, coinciding with the opening of the Koguta post station, the main hall was constructed and the deity was enshrined at the current location. The current main hall was built in 1809. During the Meiji era, it was designated as the chief ancestral shrine (so-shishin) of Koguta Town. After the great fire of 1908 (Meiji 41), the current site was acquired, and a relocation ceremony was held in 1917 (Taisho 6).
