Located in Kawagoe City, Saitama Prefecture, this shrine has long been deeply revered as the chief guardian deity of Kawagoehikawa. The enshrined deities are Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Kushiinada-hime-no-Mikoto, Ōkuninushi-no-Mikoto, Ashinazuchi-no-Mikoto, and Tenazuchi-no-Mikoto. Because it enshrines two pairs of married deities and a family of deities, it is famous nationwide as a deity of matchmaking and marriage. Tradition holds that it was founded in 541 CE (Kintoku 2), giving it a history of approximately 1,500 years. Since Ota Dōkan and his father Ota Dōsan built Kawagoe Castle in 1457 CE (Chōroku 1), it has been revered by successive feudal lords as the guardian deity of the castle town and the chief guardian of the domain. Every morning, miko (shrine maidens) wrap small stones from the precincts in hemp nets and pray for them to become 'matchmaking stones.' Only 20 of these are distributed daily, attracting worshippers from all over Japan seeking good relationships.

Known as a shrine for matchmaking and marital harmony because it enshrines five deities including married pairs, it is a popular shrine in the 'Little Edo' of Kawagoe, especially during the summer 'Matchmaking Wind Chime' event.

7月〜9月（夏季）縁むすび風鈴
夏、境内に色とりどりの江戸風鈴が涼を奏でる。
夏季限定で、境内に約2000個の江戸風鈴が飾られ、願い事を結んだ短冊とともに涼やかな音色を響かせる人気の行事。

10月・第3土日川越まつり（川越氷川祭）
ユネスコ無形文化遺産。豪華な山車が小江戸を曳き回される。
氷川神社の神幸祭に続き、ユネスコ無形文化遺産「川越氷川祭の山車行事」が行われる。豪華絢爛な山車が小江戸・川越の城下町を曳き回され、夜には山車が向き合う「曳っかわせ」で賑わう。
