周囲を豊かな緑に囲まれた静かな環境にあり、140段ほどの石段を登った先に境内が広がります。周辺の道は狭いため車でのアクセスには注意が必要ですが、赤い幟を目印に進むことができます。御朱印の授与はないものの、針供養で知られ、鞍馬や貴船などと合わせて巡るコースとしても適しています。
