History
The shrine was founded during the Kyoho era when Eiju Hoin, a priest of Hirai Shoten Tomosumi-ji Temple, enshrined the spirit of Suwa Dai Myojin (Great Deity of Suwa) from Shinano Province in a newly constructed hall. In 1872 (Meiji 5), it was designated as a village shrine. In 1933 (Shōwa 8), Yashiro Shrine, the tutelary deity of Shimo-Hirai Village, was merged into it. In 1967 (Shōwa 42), construction began on new shrine buildings, a Kagura Hall (ritual dance hall), and a Mikoshi Storehouse (portable shrine storage) to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration, which were completed in 1969 (Shōwa 44).
