Yuge Zenji Yamaobu So
池田町段739
A temple of the Myoshinji school of the Rinzai sect located in Ikeda Town, Gifu Prefecture. It is also the 9th station of the West Mino 33 Pilgrimage Sites.
History
In 817 CE (Kōnin 8), the Venerable Kūkai witnessed the manifestation of a hot spring and the Horse-Head Kannon (Kongō Yōmei Kannon) on Mount Ikeda and established the temple. During the Antoku era, Emperor Shirakawa was cured of an illness at this hot spring and bestowed the name Yugeji upon the temple. It later converted to the Rinzai sect and became the current Yuge Zenji.
