Tokumanji Temple
利根町布川3004
A Shingon Hyossan-ha sect temple located in Tone Town, Ibaraki Prefecture. The principal image (honzon) is a statue of Jizo Bosatsu (the Bodhisattva of Compassion), and an annual market known as the Jizo-ichi (Jizo Market) is held once a year.
History
The founding date is unknown, but the temple was re-established in the Genki period (1570-1573 CE) by the high priest Yusei. It was originally located near the current gate, but was relocated to its present site on the castle ruins following the abandonment of Nunokawa Castle. During the Genroku period (1688-1703 CE), a statue of Jizo Bosatsu was brought from Rokuharami-ji Temple in Kyoto and became the principal image of this temple.
