通常は非公開の門跡寺院ですが、事前予約による特別公開の際に、お庭を眺めながらの写経や抹茶の提供、生け花体験などが楽しめます。門の左側には毘沙門天や稲荷社があり、参拝が可能です。堀川通のすぐ隣でありながら、静かで雅やかな雰囲気が漂う境内です。
