This temple was re-established by Chuko Yuuzon, the 6th abbot of Sogonji, using the Kannon Hall from the ruins of Daiji Temple, a major temple that once stood in the former Hida Province. The principal image, the Kannon of the Horse's Head, is said to have originally been enshrined at Horyuji Temple. It is believed to have been transferred to Jigyanji when Daiji Temple was abandoned.
