Until the end of the Edo period, a Shingū-ji (Shrine Temple) existed within the grounds, where the syncretic faith of Shinto and Buddhism (Shinbutsu-shūgō) thrived. The current shrine buildings were rebuilt in 1978 CE (Showa 53).
