Hama Kuni Soza Iwade Myojin Shrine

Prior to the 8th century, the deity Itadai (Iwade Kami) was enshrined in Sakaima District. In 764 CE, the Myojin deity was added to the worship. In 1181 CE, the 174 shrines of varying sizes across the 16 districts of Hama Province were consolidated here, and the shrine came to be called the Hama Kuni Soza (Head Shrine of Hama Province) and Fukuchuu-sha (Shrine of the Provincial Capital). In 1581 CE, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi constructed Himeji Castle, the shrine was relocated to its current site.
