Shinzenkokuji
京都市東山区泉涌寺山内町31
A temple of the Shingon school, Izenji branch, and a sub-temple (tozu) of the head temple, Izenji. The principal image is a standing statue of Amida Nyorai (Amitabha Buddha), identical in form to the principal image at Zenkokuji in Shinano Province.
History
Founded in August 1243 CE (Kangen 1) by imperial decree of Emperor Go-Saga, with the promotion of Nisoni Chigan, on the grounds of Ichijo Dai-gu. After being reduced to ashes during the Onin War, it was relocated within the grounds of Izenji in 1473 CE (Bunmei 5) by imperial decree of Emperor Go-Tsuchimikado. It settled in its current location during the Kanbun era of the Edo period.

What visitors say
Located as a sub-temple of Izenji, the grounds feature a meticulously maintained garden and pond, where visitors can enjoy seasonal foliage such as autumn leaves and hydrangeas. The view from the main hall and the garden scenery accessible from the middle gate are highly rated. Monthly, a unique Goshuin (shrine seal stamp) with a handmade stamp is offered. Additionally, the temple enshrines Aizen Myo-o (Acala, the Vajra King of Love).
