The date of its founding is unknown. It is said that during the Heian period, when Hie Shrine was invited to serve as a guardian deity within the territory of Heibara-sho, a branch spirit was enshrined here and revered as a local tutelary deity. During the Shōhei era, a local chieftain named Hirose Hyōe established his residence on the same grounds as the shrine and devoted himself to its worship, which led to increased reverence from the general public. In 1911 CE (Meiji 44), Hie Shrine of Ōtatsunomachi was merged into this shrine.
