Nichiren-shu Shisō-ji
北杜市武川町山高2763
A Nichiren-shu temple located in Hoshino City, Yamanashi Prefecture. It is known for the 'Kamioda Sakura,' a cherry tree said to be approximately 2,000 years old.
History
Originally a Shingon-shu temple, it later converted to Nichiren-shu. There are two theories regarding the time of conversion: one suggests it occurred when Nichiren stopped by during his return journey, and the other states that in 1375 CE, Nichiyō of the Jisso-in branch assumed control of the temple. The temple adopts the latter theory. It relocated to its current site during the Eiroku period (1558–1570 CE).

The temple grounds feature the Yamatake Kamioda Sakura, said to be 2,000 years old, along with many other large cherry trees, including descendants of famous trees from across Japan. In spring, visitors can enjoy a spectacular cherry blossom landscape. The scenery is also characterized by the Southern Alps mountains serving as a borrowed background. An admission fee is required during the cherry blossom season, and the area becomes lively with food stalls set up nearby.
