Although the temple was completely destroyed by fire during the Tenmon Rebellions, the structures that form the foundation of the current temple were built in 1550 CE (Tenmon 19). It was subsequently relocated by order of Toyotomi Hideyoshi and is now located in Higashiyama Sanjo.
