The enshrined deity, Oimura Yoshishiro, was born in 1825 CE (Bunsei 8) in the Mint Office. He was active as a scholar of Western learning and military studies in the Choshu domain. During the Shogunate's campaign to subdue Choshu, he repelled the Shogunate's army using Western-style military tactics. He also left a legacy of merit during the Boshin War. In the new Meiji government, he became the Vice Minister of War and was involved in military reform, but he passed away in 1869 CE (Meiji 2).
