Shunkoin
京都市右京区花園妙心寺町42
A sub-temple (tozou) of Myoshin-ji, the head temple of the Rinzai school of Zen Buddhism. It is also famous as a temple for business prosperity because its garden enshrines the Outer Shrine (Gekiu) of Ise Jingu (Ise Grand Shrine).
History
Established in 1590 CE (Tensho 18) by Hori Yoshiharu to mourn the soul of his eldest son, Hori Kinsuke, who died in the Battle of Odawara. It was originally named Shungan-in. Later, Ishikawa Noriyuki became a patron (dangaku), and in 1636 CE (Kan'ei 13), the temple was renamed Shunkoin.
