A Soto sect temple located in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture, and one of the oldest Soto sect temples in the former Hida Province. Within the temple grounds, Higashiyama Hakusan Shrine is enshrined as the guardian deity.
History
The site was once occupied by Myokanji, a branch temple of the Hakusan Shrine from ancient times, and it originally belonged to the Tendai sect. Around 1395 CE (Eicho 2), the halls were rebuilt by Shinkaku, the former abbot of Noto Soji-ji, and the temple was converted to the Soto sect and named Kaizosan Unryuji. Shinkaku was a revered monk who passed away in 1423 CE (Eicho 30).
