In the 3rd year of Emperor Keitai's reign, it is said that a divine oracle was received from the moon deity by Abe no Omi, an envoy sent to Mimana. The land of 'Uta-ara-izuta' in Katsura District, Yamashiro Province, was dedicated, and Omi Sukune, the ancestor of the governors of Hoki Province, performed the rites. Later, in 856 CE (Seiwa 3), the shrine was relocated to 'Matsuo no Minami-yama' to avoid flood damage. It is now a subsidiary shrine of Matsuo Taisha and one of the Seven Shrines of Matsuo.
