History
Founded in 1502 by Sano Moritsuna at the foot of Mount Aoyagi, it became the family temple of the Sano clan. In 1522, the abbot Zoten Shosa had an audience with Emperor Go-Komatsu and obtained the status of a Chokuganji (temple established by imperial decree). In 1620, following the confiscation of the Sano clan's domain, the temple was relocated to its current site.
