Founded in 1526 CE (Taien 6) by Ota Sugitaka as the patron and Nichigen as the founding abbot. The temple moved several times before relocating to its current site in 1709 CE (Hoei 6) under the abbot Nichichu. During the Edo period, it was a famous spot for moon viewing.
