History
In 1469, Oda Urugami enshrined a branch spirit (bunrei) from Hikawa Shrine to establish this shrine for the protection of Edo Castle. It also served as the tutelary deity (chinju) of Hongo Village. In 1945, all shrine buildings, including the main hall, were destroyed by fire during the Tokyo air raids. The main hall was rebuilt in 1955, and the Kagura Hall (Kagura-den) and shrine office were reconstructed in 1958.
