History
The temple was originally founded in 1626 CE (Kan'ei 3) as a simple hut named Tosen-an and is said to have come under the jurisdiction of Seishunji. It was re-established in 1686 CE (Jōkyō 3) by Unkai Sotan of Seishunji. In 1861 CE (Bunkyū 1), Reisō Soren of Seishunji re-founded it as Tosenji. Since then, the abbot of Seishunji has concurrently served as the head of Tosenji and managed the temple.
