History
The founding date is unknown. Legends suggest it was established either by a clan member of Minamoto no Yorimasa who enshrined deities from Ise Jingu, or by remnants of Wada Yoshimori's forces. During the Edo period, a betto (lay priest) was appointed to manage the shrine. From the Meiji era onward, shrine priests from Yasaka Shrine served here. The main hall (honden) was renovated in 1918 (Taisho 7). After the main hall and worship hall (haiden) were destroyed by fire in 1939 (Showa 14), they were rebuilt the following year.
