History
The shrine was founded in 1890 when Shouin's elder brother built a small earthen-walled shrine and enshrined the Akama inkstone and letters as sacred objects, following Shouin's last will. In 1907, led by Ito Hirobumi and Nomura Yasushi, a petition was made to establish the shrine as an official Shinto shrine. The worship hall of Miyazaki Hachiman within Hagi Castle grounds was moved and attached to the earthen-walled main hall. The current shrine buildings were newly constructed in 1955 (Showa 30).
