History
The shrine's origin is said to date to 887 CE (Ninna 3), when a monk residing at Youryu-ji Temple on a hill in Akashi sensed the spirit of Kakimoto no Yamato and erected a small shrine on a mound to enshrine him as a guardian deity. During the Edo period, the shrine was relocated to its current site in connection with the construction of Akashi Castle. In 1723 CE (Kyohei 8), by imperial decree from Emperor Reigen, the shrine was granted the rank of Shu-ichi-i (First Rank) and the divine title Kakimoto Dai Myojin.
