During the Muromachi period, Date Mochimune transferred the deity from Kameoka Hachimangu on Takako-oka to this site and merged it with Wakamiya Hachiman, allowing the shrine to prosper under the protection of the Date clan. The current shrine buildings were reconstructed in 1745 CE (Enkyo 2).
