The founding date is unknown, but according to local tradition, it dates back to the reign of Emperor Yuryaku. As an Engishiki-designated shrine, it was renamed Shibaki Shrine during the shrine reforms of 1873 (Meiji 6), but its original name, Shiba Marabime Shrine, was restored in 1879 (Meiji 12) upon request. In 1883 (Meiji 16), it was classified as a Kotaijinja (village shrine).
