In the first year of the Bunsei era (1456 CE), Ota Dōkan enshrined the Great Deity of the Five Shrines of Inariyama in Yamashiro Province, citing the efficacy of his rain-making rituals. During the Edo period, it was one of the Three Great Forests of Edo and received reverence from various feudal lords. In the Kanbun era (1661–1673 CE), Yoshikawa Tadatsune received a divine oracle from the Great Deity Ōkuninushi and enshrined the Great Deity Ebisu.
