Enoki Shrine
各務原市川島松倉町2433
A shrine located in Kawashima Matsukura-cho, Gifu Prefecture, adjacent to Kawato Lake Park.
History
It is one of the candidate shrines listed as 'Kawashima Shrine' in the Engishiki (a 10th-century codex) for the Hachiri District of Owari Province. During the Heian period, it served as the guardian shrine (Chinju-sha) of a Tendai sect temple. In the Bunmei era, it was renamed Enoki Myojin due to a large zelkova tree (Enoki) within the precincts, and it was relocated during the Kan'en era. In 1907 CE (Meiji 40), it was moved to its current location due to river improvement works on the Kiso River.
