円覚寺の修行道場であり、普段は立ち入りが制限されていますが、年に二度の特別公開や宿泊坐禅会などの際に正面まで入ることが可能です。御朱印は円覚寺の総門近くの受付でいただけます。周辺には国宝の舎利殿や開山堂があり、鎌倉二十四地蔵巡礼の第十三番札所でもあります。
