It is said that in 1406 CE (Eiyou 13), during an invasion by the Numata clan of Ueno Province, two vassals, Takahashi Geki and Sakurai Iori, who had taken the Amitabha Buddha statue, renounced the world and established a thatched hut in Negishi Village with the statue as the principal image. In 1574 CE (Tenshou 2), it was moved to Kaji-machi by the monk Seigo Shonin and became Hozoyama Shoukakuji (Shoukakuji Temple on Mount Hozoyama).
